Glass Thermometers

Glass Thermometers (resp. liquid-in-glass thermometers) are expansion thermometers. Usually they contain a liquid-filled jacket with a glass capillary and a scale for temperature reading. In proportion to the temperature change the volume of this liquid changes so that the capillary level increases or drops.
